Canada launches first-ever Tech Talent Strategy

The Tech Talent Strategy is made up of six big steps to draw and keep tech workers from all over the world.

Canada is making it easier for more tech workers, like H-1B users, digital nomads, and others, to work in the country.
With the following steps, Canada's new Tech Talent Strategy will try to bring in more tech workers:

New open work permit for H-1B: Foreign workers with H-1B visas for specialty jobs in the US will be able to apply for a work permit in Canada, and their family members will be able to learn or work, depending on their situation. Canada will start the program on July 16 and keep it going for a year or until 10,000 people apply, whichever comes first.
Under the International Mobility Program's new Innovation Stream, Canada is making employer-specific work permits for up to five years for people who want to work for certain government-approved companies. It is also making open work permits for up to five years for highly skilled workers in certain in-demand jobs. By the end of this year, the innovation stream will be up and running.
Under the Global Skills Strategy, work passes must be used for at least 14 days. The Global Skills Strategy has four policies that are meant to help Canadian companies who want to find highly skilled workers quickly from all over the world. Employment and the growth of society After a slowdown caused by the pandemic, Canada now meets the two-week standard for processing Global Talent Stream labor market effect studies for companies and IRCC now meets the two-week standard for processing work permit applications.
Digital nomads can now work in Canada for up to six months by going through the same steps as a tourist.
Express Entry STEM-specific draws: more offers to apply through Express Entry will be sent out under category-based selection. The first one will take place during the week of July 5.
Changes that will be made to the Start-up Visa Program:
This school will get more spots in 2023, and more places are expected to be added in 2024 and 2025. People will be able to apply for work permits that are valid for up to three years instead of just one. Applicants will be able to apply for an open work pass instead of one that only lets them work for their own start-up. Canada is giving this three-year open work permit to every member of the business team, not just those who are wanted right away and are important.
Canada is also giving priority to applications backed by venture capital, angel investment groups, business incubators, and business incubators that have committed capital, as well as applications backed by business incubators that are members of Canada's Tech Network.
In a press statement, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said, "We're excited about the big goals we've set for immigration because they're not just about numbers—they're also about strategy."

"With Canada's first-ever Tech Talent Immigration Strategy, we're looking for newcomers who can help make Canada a world leader in a number of new technologies."

Fraser announced the new tech plan on June 27, 2023, at the Collision meeting in Toronto.
